“Renew and Rejoice”

LIVE ART!! 3.31.24 @hopewdm 5pm Easter Service!

The artist couldn’t make it to paint for the last service so with 40 mins notice to prepare I jumped for Jesus!!! This is in honor of my faithful mother Pat Jacobs @pj713 who loves Jesus with all her heart. Even as I started painting the woman became purple my moms favorite color. And she wanted to be remembered by butterflies.

I’m in awe of God and how he can make a way so spontaneously. That was the shortest notice I’ve ever had to paint live for worship. What a gift to have that opportunity to be completely inspired and obedient in the moment on the day that our Lord and Savior was raised from the dead.

Your name is power and healing! I’ll praise you anywhere and everywhere!

In the painting the woman represents the freedom, healing and power of renewing our minds with God’s word.

”Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.“
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The sermon was based on the verses in John 20:1-8:

The Resurrection

20 Early on Sunday morning,[a] while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 2 She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

3 Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. 4 They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. 6 Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, 7 while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. 8 Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.

36” x 36” x 2.5”d original mixed media on handmade frame stretched canvas. Created live during 2022 Christmas Eve worship service at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, IA.

I prayed, meditated and researched the reason Jesus came to earth. To seek and save us! A pattern is emerging from the sermons and daily devotions I hear and the words I read in the Bible.  Humans are lost and unsatisfied in this material world but centering our life around God can satisfy our soul and renew our mind. Over and over I hear and read #renewyourmind! That is what’s on my Christmas list this year…a new mind! For everyone!!

I struggle with ptsd and mental health issues from a ton of trauma in my past. God is leading me deep down a path of discovery and expression which is easing the grip I have on control. It’s all helping me let go and trust the process.  I love researching the visions God lays on my heart. I learned the Mexican legend about poinsettias and a small girl named Pepita. And that Poinsettias are from Mexico and represent the Christmas star, cheer, success and joy. I painted this golden person with red poinsettias blooming from its head to represent rebirth, red for the blood Christ shed, flowers for the cycle of creation, life and death.

“Most of all, let the Word of God fill you and renew your mind every day. When our minds are on Christ, Satan has little room to maneuver.” — Billy Graham.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬
